Darius’s Story: A Lifeline of Hope 

“Hospice became a lifeline for my family, bringing us the hope we thought we’d lost.” 

Darius’s younger brother, Sergiu, was just over a year old when he became seriously ill, suffering severe brain damage that left him unable to move, see, or speak. In their one-room house without heat or running water, Darius and his family faced this devastating news alone, unsure how to give Sergiu the care he needed. 

But then, they found hospice. The hospice team became their lifeline—teaching Sergiu’s parents how to care for him, providing supplies and medicine, and offering hundreds of hours of physiotherapy to keep Sergiu comfortable. For Darius, hospice is not just a place; it’s family, a symbol of hope when they needed it most. 

We are supporting 5 new initiatives of our partner hospices that desperately need more “windows”. They are:

• Romania: A new children’s hospice and teaching center in Bucharest
• Greece: The first day center and outpatient clinic in Athens
• Northern Romania: A new hospice center 
• Ukraine: A day center for families in Kyiv
• Moldova: The first in-patient hospice in Chisinau
