Mrs V’s Story

“I was born into a poor family. My mother died when I was 20. I went to visit her in hospital, and it was her roommate who told me she had passed away. She said that with her last strength, my mother made a final wish – that I, her eldest daughter, would take care of my four younger siblings. The youngest was only five and a half at the time. Our father left us just three months later. We never heard from him again.”

This is how Mrs V begins her story. One of resilience, courage, and quiet determination.

Despite the overwhelming loss and responsibility placed on her shoulders, Mrs V stepped into the role of both mother and father to her siblings. All while continuing her education. “My life taught me what it means to be a social worker,” she says. “And from 2008 to 2022, I worked as a social worker.” It’s a profession she deeply connected with — one she believes requires heart.

It was former colleagues who first told her about our partner hospice, and she remains grateful for the care she receives now. “Before arriving here, I got lost a few times,” she says. Visits are rare; “Two girls from my old workplace came, even though they didn’t know me personally. They came because they were moved by my story.”

And we were moved too. by her strength and how she gave so much without ever asking for anything in return. Mrs V believes in doing good without expecting anything back. And we believe that the kindness you put into the world always finds its way back to you.
